Power Supply and Operating System. Then of course all the stuff outside the computer, monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse. As for processors, Intel makes the fastest processors right now, PERIOD. I have been saying AMD for a few years now, becaue it was true, but times have changed, the Core 2 Duos are the fastest out right now. Here are the benchmarks:http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html

I think it is a big mistake these days to buy such a small hard disk to install the OS on. A 500 gig 10 mb 7200 RPM Western Digital only costs $69 on sale. Why would you EVER think about an 80 gig disk? It only has a 2 mb cache! So slow! Its better to buy a bigger hard disk with more cache memory and the cost difference is trivial (maybe, $20?). In my computer, I have a 1 teribyte where my O/S is installed guaranteeing I have plenty of space for everything to update my O/S with and other software that is best on the primary. I then have smaller 500 gig hard disks where I put other stuff like games, A smaller hard disk like a 500 gig loads faster, that's why. If I were you, I would put the 1 teribyte as primary C drive, do not partition it. Buy a 500 gig for games I answered your question, but I didn't go through the other hardware, which looks ok to me.

Whats your budget?
For midrange i can reccommend a couple components...
GPU: GTX 960 4GB $250-350
CPU: Either i5 or i7
RAM: 8GB or 16GB
HDD: A good idea is to have windows on an SSD (Solid State Drive) so it boots quicker and anyother things you want to load fast. They are more expensive however it ususally is worth it. But otherwise I'd go for 1-3TB if you have large steam library and record... My whole steam library is installed on a 2tb harddrive and ive only used a max of 600gb with exactly 100 games.
Hope I could help. Contact me on itsdanielfrw@gmail.com if you need any more help ill try my best.

YOu proly want to buy a PSU because most of the time the PSU they give you wit the case isnt that good for gaming. and go for AMD. Wait till after they come out with VISTA to buy any new computer because by then all the parts they have now will be outdated so it'll be kind of waste of money to buy them now.

ur good on the list but now to choose the parts ... i went with an amd dual core and a good motherboard and ram that i could overclock easily ... the hot ticket right now is an nvidia 7950 videocard ... sli is even better hehe .... i sli'ed two 7800s' that about equals the 7950 but the 7950 is way cheaper now ... putting a couple of harddrives in raid will speed load times way up as well as 2gigs of fast ram will help to .... i used two 10000rpm raptors in raid ... its really fast. .. and yes i agree with everyone else ...get a good psu like a 600watt ocz powerstream or gamestream.

I swtiched to AMD many years ago because of the price! Never had a single failure! As far as missing items, operating system, power supply.
You might also consider tryin to find a mobo without onboard video!

for price, i would go AMD, i always have, the usb port will come on the motherboard pretty much gaunteed, and depending on the case, you may need to buy a better power supply.. with the case/power supply, plz go name brand. the money you spend there will save you later.. i had a power supply literally fry while my computer was on b/c i skimped on it.

also keep in mind a monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse.

I remember a few months ago the PC Magazine and the Computer Shopper Magazine had built one of those monsters for about $5000.00; go to their sites and search to find step by step procedures, parts and cost info.
Have fun
