You are no doubt anticipating an answer to your question and here it is, to expect is to ANTICIPATE.
On the other hand to Anticipate is not necessarily the same as to Expect as in the former there is an element of hope where as in the latter it is a more definite expectation.
You can anticipate the receiving of presents on your birthday whereas you will expect to have your birthday on the same day each year.
