When someone complains that they have hiccups, I always act interested and say: "Oh, yeah? Let's hear one, then."

Since it's impossible to produce a genuine hiccup on command, obviously, they won't be able to do it.

So then I say, "See? You don't have hiccups. It was all in your head."

They try to convince me otherwise; all the while, I'm harrassing them: "Come on, hiccup! You can't do it!"

99% of the time, it works. My services actually used to be called on for this all the time at work... believe it or not, someone actually PAGED me over the intercom to come up and harrass them about their hicucps.

Just a neat little mental trick.

It is due to upset of diaphragm, try to control it by regulating your breath. Pranayam and Yoga can help you to come out of this problem.

just hold your breath several times for as long as you can. i don't know about all those other "remedies" like eating sugar and all, but holding your breath usually works.
