Unfortunately, the law regards 'life' not at conception but when a child exits the womb which explains why there is no law against mothers using drugs whilst pregnant. The whole issue of law and morality has been going on for years. if drug taking whilst pregnant was made illegal, they would have to reconsider the the law in relation to abortion...and i dont think they want to go down that road again...

No, you are not the only one who sees something wrong in this. I can't explain why the law only values the human life once it has come outside the womb. Sometimes, when a pregnant woman is murdered, the murderer is charged with the unborn's murder, too.

Your premise is incorrect. There are a number of child neglect cases where mothers have been prosecuted for having drugs in their system. Haven't you ever heard the term "crack baby"? There are cases where newborns have been taken from their mothers because the babies had crack or other drugs in their system. In some cases, the mothers lose custody or are prosecuted for neglect.

I am not familiar with that. In most states if a child is born and test positive for illegal drugs, the child is taken away into protective custody. I can only agree that if this double standard exist then yes it is beyond wrong.

Actually, if a woman does something that can harm the baby she is carrying, she can be prosecuted. But she can have it's life exterminated up into the third trimester without a problem.
Peterson was convicted of 2 counts of murder for his wife and unborn son. But his wife could have aborted the baby and it would be okay.
What's wrong with this picture.

it's a sad state of affairs. i know that in NYC if a pregnant woman is caught with drugs the bureau of children's services gets involved. they urine test her and if the baby is born addicted they take the baby away from the mother. but we do have to start to make some type of change. life starts at conception.
