This is the method to measure the volume of an irregular three dimensional object.

One immerses the object in water. (Dunks it completely) The amount of water it moves out of the way is it's volume.

Example, you want to know the volume of a toy submarine.

Immerse the toy in a tub of water. The water level in the tub will raise up to a point. Measure the volume of the water that was lifted. This will be the exact volume of the toy sub.

I'm doing the same thing in science. It's a way to find an objects volume. It's basically where you get a cup with a spout in it so water leaks out, fil it to the top and wait for everything to drain, until the hole, and put the object in. make sure the water will drain into a graduated cylinder (a tube that measures volume with the little marks, like a ruler). when it finishes draining, measure the graduated cylinder's contents.
