or do you give someone else that might have a better answer than yours a low rating so you can get the "soul stirring, burst with pride" 10 point best answer ?

I don't mind not getting the "best answer rating" I answer with my heart and hope it makes a difference. Makes me smile when
I do get it though!

I try to give my best answers most of the time, but sometimes I don't. There are frequently other answers that are better than my best. I give other answers a thumbs up if I think it is a good answer or a thumbs down if I don't think it's a helpful answer, but I might also give a thumbs down to an answer that is too long just to collapse it from my page view. Unless it's a really good long answer.
When askers choose a best answer, that usually only means that it is the answer they find the most agreeable. I get a bigger burst of pride if my answers get selected without being entirely agreeable to the asker. That means I've given someone some new information. The best is having an answer picked for best by a vote. That's approval from a peer-group. Wheeeeee!

My answers are always the best I can give,IMHO many of the answers given are clearly not the best advice for the questioner
(to me ) and in some case's I believe could do the questioner harm(mentally) and I note this by giving a low rating...the points mean nothing to me they are just a reference point ....cheating is never the way to go , The one who cheats really is cheating ones self

Nope only about 7% of my answers. It used to be higher, but now I don't go into as much detail. I've been more interested in asking questions lately than give people proper answers.

No my answers are not always the best and I don't give a low rating unless they're offensive.

We all wish our answers were the best but most of the time somebody else gets the dime!

I give the best answers I can. It is up to others to determine whether they feel my answer is the best depending on the subject matter.

What you are suggesting is cheating, and that generates enormous amounts of negative Karma. Points are hardly worth the pain of dishonesty, are they?

Peace
