Got one better. They don't vote in pay raises, they are automatic and can't be stopped without a full vote of congress.

Not bad huh! The working stiff has to beg for a stinking 3 to 4% raise and theirs is a no brainer.

Its different. They are the government and have the power to do so for themselves and other federal employees.

The whole question of raising the minimum wage is not a "fairness" issue as whether or not one is making minimum wage is a function of many possible reasons none of which is directed targetting of individuals. The issue behind whether or not to raise minimum wage is based on economics and the prevailing economic theory to raising minimum wage is that it can only be raised usually once a decade and slightly so as not to cause massive unemployment.

You see most employers who pay minimum wage are in the majority in terms of numbers of people employed. They are also usually small "hand to mouth" businesses which means that any additional costs that they encur including a hike in the minimum wage takes a significant chunk outta their profits which usually go into things like pay and supply. A minimum wage hike usually means that somebody has to loose their job for such an employer. Keep in mind this is the majority employer in the country. Service industry and small business.

No. Personally I think they get way too much money. I think they should get minimum wage and no perks. If raises are given it should be decided by the people they are supposed to be serving. Based on how well they are doing their job just like the rest of us have to do. Seems they've gotten their duties a little mixed up. They seem to have their own agendas and are more concerned about maintaining their seat and big business than they are about the American people. Maybe if they had to tighten their belt some and become accountable for their job to the people.....maybe they'd start doing what they were voted in to do. It's not like these people aren't rich already. Maybe they'd get back the "service" attitude again.

This collection of pedophiles, liars, petty thieves, alcoholics, wife beaters, homosexuals, shoplifters, bad-check writers, cross dressers, rapists, drug abusers, and maybe even a murderer or two, long ago passed legislation that automatically grants them a cost-of-living increase. So, they' more than doubled their incomes in less than 10 years while the 8 millions working Americans earning minimum wage continue to live below the poverty line. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right.

No, they're getting paid to destroy America. They should be run out of America, not paid and given major decision making roles.
