Some bees decided to make a hive in the space underneath the hose caddy that hangs on my house in my back yard. It's about the size of a grapefruit. I'd leave it alone, but it's low, and I have kids. I was thinking about waiting for it to get really cold outside (I live in the north-east, so it won't be long now) and dislodging with a little souvineir Dodgers baseball bat. Do bees leave when it freezes? Or do they hibernate? Can I swing for the bleechers?

Get some of the FOAM bee spray and wait until they are all in the hive.
(Late at night is the best time) With the foam you can see that you are covering the entire nest. Take a flash light out with you. use the lowest circle of the light to guide you toward the nest. Spray the foam and stand back with in seconds they start dropping from the nest. Spray again if neccessary.
Then and this is very important. Knock down the hive and destroy it. Smash it all up with your foot. If the hive is not distroyed others will be in it the next day. (Good Luck) this has always worked for me.

I had a bee hive in my yard and ran over it with the riding mower, and when I told my husband about it, he burned it. He just dumped a little gas down in it and caught it on fire...the bees never came back. But I wouldn't advise you to do this if you think anything else would catch on fire. It is effective though

Call a bee keeper and he will come get it for free. If you spend some time talking to him you might even get some free honey from one of his other hives. Don't try to do it yourself, unless you have benedryl or Adrenalin (epinephrine) available for your stings and possible closed airway. Good Luck
