about 1/3 of africans have AIDS, and billions of dollars are going to africa to supply the population with drugs to allow people with HIV/AIDS to live longer...from bono to bill gates. Oprah just did a huge show on it with Bono.

A lot of African people do not believe in safe sex, won't use condoms and so the disease keeps spreading. AIDS education doesn't always help people in Africa because of they have conflicting relgious beliefs. They can be told about the HIV virus all day, but they either won't listen to biology style discussion of how HIV is transmitted or they won't believe it.

If we give 1 billion dollars to african countries to prolong the life of people with HIV, this just allows them to live longer & spread it to more people, right? At least in america, people with HIV know how to protect their partners... and even here, they don't always do it.

so what do you think of the fact bill gates and bono are giving billions to this cause? shouldn't we find a VACCINE?

Rape is happening in DARFUR - not in the entire continent. Second, your idiotic conspiracy theory is not why we don't have a vaccine. We don't have a vaccine for 100s of reasons, one of which is the mutation rate of the RNA of the virus.

Unfortunately, I see most of the efforts of celebrities and others as self-serving and sucking up to huge drug companies.

Finding a vaccine requires the type of work that FDR did with the March of Dimes, where the focus was on prevention and not on creating profit sources while killing off whole populations of people.

I don't know about any conspiracy theories, etc. but if even 10% of the money poured into the pockets of the drug companies for AIDS medicines was used to develop stable economic conditions and build roads, bridges, water and sewage facilities, we wouldn't even need to have this discussion.

Alot of African men also believe in the myth that if they are HIV positive and have sex with a virgin they will be cured. So they are just passing it around to innocent girls.

They need to be educated of how to prevent contracting it. I would rather help pay for condoms for then than HIV drugs.

Yes. It does seem like a waste of time to help people in Africa with AIDS live longer, considering many of them will just do something stupid like drink monkey's blood anyway. Although it does sound mean, it really doesn't make sense to spend money on helping people with HIV live longer if they're going to die anyway. That money should be spent on finding a vaccine.

To me, this is one of the biggest cover ups by the mainstream Medical community and the drug companies. If you do not know it already there are cures for all diseases, but the mainstream medical community and the drug companies do not want anyone to find out the truth because they fear that they will lose some of their Billions of $$$ in excess profits. They continue to pull in huge profits from keeping the world and the public in the dark about what causes diseases and their cures. There are only two causes of diseases, Toxins and Parasites. I guess that one can make the case that individuals like Bill Gates and Bono are at least trying to do something to help with the AIDS/HIV situation in Africa (and by the way, India has more individuals with these diseases than Africa does) by donating and raising more money, but even they are simply being used by the big drug companies to help to continue to line their pockets with more $$$. I would like to think that if Bill Gates and Bono knew the truth, then they would be doing somethings very differently. (And yes, AIDS and HIV are curable, and individuals don't have to get them in the first place. These are two diseases that are caused by our continuing to pollute our envirnoment with very nasty and deadly Toxins, such as Benzene and Wood Alcohols; the parasites that are involved in these diseases have always been with mankind since the beginning of time. The FDA and the FCC sued her (for supposedly practicing MD medicine without a MD license) and harassed Dr. Clark for her work and research and now she cannot even work in the USA, anymore. Her clinic is in the country of Mexico. Once the mainstream Medical community and the drug companies realized that her work and research was for real and the truth (all diseases can be cured and even prevented) she became the target of legal suits. And, to this date, the mainstream medical community and the drug companies still will not have her work "peer reviewed," so that it could be used to treat patients by MD's. So, we are still stuck in the Dark Ages of medicine because of the need to make and sell chemcial "maintenance" mediciations when there are CURES for HIV, AIDS, and cancers to name a few of these major diseases. To me, the answer is for each and every person who is concerned about the health of themselves, and their families, and the rest of the world, to take some time and find out the truth for themselves by doing a little bit of reading and research. Have you not picked up a reputable newspaper?
HIV spreads not because of their refusal of condoms, it spreads because of RAPE. Women are raped on a daily basis to degrade them and to spread fear.

Plus, haven't you ever wondered why there hasn't been a cure yet? There probably is one but the drug companies don't want it out because they'll lose billions of dollars as no one will buy their life prolonging pills.

I do agree that the money would be of better use going to discovering a vaccine.
It is a well known fact that most of the money given to help these poor people rarely gets to them.By the time everyone lines their own pockets there isn't enough left to buy medicine for them.
