Rap isn't music to start with. in case you have ear maximum cancers, it became led to by ability of a few thing different than 'rap'. 'Rap' has led to plenty misery for authentic musicians and adjusted a technology of 'non' musical human beings to earnings popularity alongside with a unusual celeb status. that's greater a 'cult' utilising microphones and 'borrowed' background rhythms and tunes to 'say' or 'communicate' their 'rap'. there became a music years in the past entitled "The Rapper". It spoke of the 'rap' used as a 'p.c..-up' line for the different intercourse even with the undeniable fact that it became no longer 'rap' in line with say. Mack

You must not have been around anyone REALLY talented in Hip-hop/rapping. I grew up with and still know some very talented rappers. I was always amazed at how a TRUE rapper so easily free flow. (Which is coming up with lyrics on the drop of dime. Really quick, without writing anything down.) You have to be quick witted. Have a broad knowledge of a variety of things and be able to twist the sound of words to rhyme with the next thing. It's pretty dam cool.
Don't sleep on: Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre', Tupac, Busta Rhymes, Eric B. and Rakim, Biggie, MC Lyte, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot...... I could go on and on. It takes intelligence to do what they do.

True. Im a rap fan, but some of these rappers still sell drugs and live in the same neighborhood they grew up in, that's not good intelligence. The goal is to move from the bottom to the top, not stay at the bottom.

There is good rap, and bad rap just like anything else. Good one actually takes some intelligence, many rappers talk about society, politics, and what's going on in the world generally. And you cant rap about it and get a message across w/o any knowledge on these things. Rap wouldn't have gotten so much appreciation if it was all stupid, and meaningless.

True and false.
It doesn't take much intelligence to make crappy rap music but good music of any kind takes intelligence and talent. Rappers have no corner on the stupid market. There have been plenty of rock stars who either weren't the brightest to start with or destroyed their brains on drugs. There are quite a few country musicians who I would consider pretty far from being geniuses as well.

True, intelligence is useful for rocket scientists and surgeons. To be a good artist takes creativity. I am using the term 'artist' loosely, but you understand my point.

I don't listen to rap, but I have overheard it on occasion when in public. I say it at least takes great effort to conceive of something so mind-numbingly boring. I'm perplexed as to why some people like it.

True.
Any idiot with a rhyming dictionary and a good beat can make it.
Now, let's see crappers, I mean rappers, do something really creative like play instruments, and come up with original stuff instead of swiping/sampling other peoples' work.

well, it depends what type of rap you're talking about. these bling-bling thugs, ex: lil john, 50 cent, don't have any intelligence, they say the same thing repeatedly and only care about their image. there are some intelligent rappers out there who care about culture, politics, and people, ex: Busdriver, the Beastie Boys, their lyrics are thoughtful and get a message across
