Woooo hooooo, my 600th answer!! Yay me! :-D
For years, my grandpa started playing Christmas music in September. He loved it. One of my first memories is of being in my grandma and grandpa's house with my grandpa playing Christmas music in September.
I say, if you want to start celebrating early, go for it. The only people who won't like it are party poopers anyway.

The majority of people get burned out of Christmas "stuff" after a couple of months. I agree with some other writers that it gets tiresome to see it before Thanksgiving or even Halloween. We put our tree up and start decorating the day after Thanksgiving and don't take it down until mid-Jan. I'd shop whenever I found something to buy someone. People will probably think you are nuts if they hear you playing Christmas music now! I wish the radio stations would play it starting at least the beginning of Dec. and more often than they usually do.

I would say it's too early to decorate, but that is my own personal opinion. Normally my family would put up the christmas tree and decorations the weekend before Thanksgiving (mostly because my dad was only home on weekends). We'd spend the three to four days before Thanksgiving decorating the tree, and on Thanksgiving day, we would light it up for the first time, and leave it on all day.
Over the next month or so, us three kids would take turns, lighting it each night at about 6:30 until about 9:00 (bed time) until Christmas Eve. Christmas Day, it would stay on all day again.
However, this year, there are unusual circumstances. I'm not going to be home until November 9th, and then I leave again on the 21st to report in to my next duty station on November 22nd. I won't get to spend any of the holidays with my family, so they are decorating and celebrating Christmas early, while I'm there. But that is purely situational.
Shopping can never be done too early. I answered another question earlier today saying I would be THRILLED if my boyfriend or mom suddenly gave me something that I had asked for earlier in the year. Plus it's much less stressful to get something now, and hide it until Christmas, than doing last-minute shopping in crowded stores, when many things become sold-out. Two years ago, I was working in a gas station on Christmas Eve, when people would come in and buy gift items - FROM A GAS STATION, because they had waited too long to get things such as stocking stuffers. Play it safe, buy it now.
Christmas music, on the other hand, is a different matter altogether for me. The only music my dad ever bought on a CD was Manheim Steamroller's Christmas. We'd listen to it every year on the way to my aunt's house for Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. But my dad passed away 8 years ago, and I listen to Manheim Steamroller now and then, just to remember him - regardless of the time of year. However, I won't listen to any OTHER Christmas music until December.

Shopping, I think is OK anytime if you really found a bargain or something that you know the person will love.....why wait? As for the decorating, I would hold off....anticipation is half the fun...keep it special. As for the music, I purposely pack all my Christmas movies and Cd's away, because I look so forward to them every year and I want them to be special....but , the truth is, I will break a few out when I feel a little down. They are like a comfort food. But they wouldn't be if they were around all the time......But, go ahead, listen to a little music, and keep your heart tuned into the Spirit of Christmas.

Ok, here's one of my huger pet peeves- when the stores have Christmas out before Thanksgiving.... From one "gimme" to another... No thanking in between! (I was in Fred Meyer's the other day, and there were all three out- Halloween, Thanksgiving AND Christmas!!)
I don't see a problem in shopping for gifts all year round- makes the stress less in December.
Music- Well, I sometimes put the Christmas music on in August... mind over matter?
But the decorating... not so much... I figure that's what the Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving is for-- Go get the tree, then stay home and decorate- avoid the shopping crouds!

I work retail. I've been looking at Christmas for a month now. Its way to early to decorate and to listen to the music. I'm dreading it. I have to listen to White Christmas done 15 different ways in one hour. Its like that was only Christmas song written. the worst rendition ever -Neil Diamond- Oh Holy Night. Just pitiful. Anyway its never to early to shop though. I do it all year long. Helps spread the cost out abit.

I shop early for Xmas gifts so I don't get stuck at the last minute running up the credit card trying to order presents.
I don't decorate before Dec 1 but to each their own. The tree and other holiday hoopla takes up so much room.

Yes! It is too early. It's 2 and a half months away dude. That's way too much Christmas cheer for anyone to take. Besides I don't know where you are, but here it's still summer weather. Be patient my friend.
