NO! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a story that is loosely based of the events of killer, Ed Gein. The based on a true story introduction at the beginning of the movie was something that the director thought was cool to add in.

wrong it was based on Toby hopper's research of Ed Gein.......he killed two women and dug up varies women from the local cemetery to use the skin of the dead.
Later Toby saw a chainsaw and knew that it would be a cool story ....
but still not true...
i live in texas and get over it already geezzzzz

It is loosely based on Ed Gein
he liked to dance with dead lady corpses!
He is said to have killed at least one to two ladies.
But there are conflicting reports on if this is true or not
The Movie just made it more exciting, there is not killing canibal family in Texas , besides The Bush Family

It's loosely based or a better way would be inspired by true events. Research Ed Gains--he kept a bowl of noses in the kitchen from corpses he robbed.
