If you want to be a fashion designer then learning to sew will be a tremendous asset. If there are any classes you could take at school or at a craft or fabric store it would be best to take one so you can learn the basics properly. Sewing can be self taught but some of the finer points such as installing a zipper, attaching a collar or cuffs and making button holes are best learned under the eye of an expert. Do you have a relative who could teach you some basics? If you need to start small you can learn to sew straight seams by making pillows, curtains and tote bags. This is a great hobby for a budding designer because eventually, with practice, you will have a wardrobe that is envied by all your friends.

I am not athletic at all, so I would not choose sports as a "hobby" (although badminton could be kind of fun at times).
Ask yourself: Do I want a hobby that involves other people (like a sport)? Do I want a hobby that involves using my hands (like woodworking or sewing)? Do I want a hobby that involves my creativity (like photography or scrapbooking)?
Ultimately, you need to make your own choice.

OK, here it is become a reenactor. Select a era or situation and join up. You'll make a lot of friends, you'll learn to enjoy history, you'll find you enjoy learning and then teaching the public. There is World War I or II; the English and American Civil Wars; (God please forgive me for telling her about this one) there is Star Trek reenactors and hundred more. It might be a little expensive at first but it will quickly bottom out and you will love it! I think you would enjoy being a Vilking or medieval. Good luck and May God Bless You and the Southern People. (Please let me know what you decide).

A lot of the girls at our local high school knit and crochet. They have come up with some of the greatest fashion accessories like purses and scarves that are their own designs and absolutely incredible.

I started to do plastic canvis type of embroirdery. There are lots of books with directions-everything from simple cross stitch, embroidery, to plastic canvas. It's not really hard once you get the hang of it. There are so many things to do and to go with it. and beleive me it is not a granny thing and it is very inexpensive.

You can get clothes that you no longer wear, that brothers and sisters no longer wear, or that your parents wear, and cut and sew them again. Or you can sew costume jewelry onto old jeans. Redesign old clothes and have yard sales and put a little change in your pockets.

you could try scrapbooking because it brings the creative side of you and could help you come up with some designing ideas.
