Always wait for the buyer to leave their feedback before you leave yours. This lets you know that they received the item and are pleased. If there are any problems, you can resolve them before leaving your feedback.

Your feedback is your protection. Your buyer NEEDS your positive feedback, and they will leave you positive feedback in hopes that you will do the same.

As for payment pending, your my EBay page shows a record of each transaction. If the pament is still pending there will be an hourglass shape in the paid column (because you are still waiting for the payment to clear.) You will receive an email from paypal when the payment has cleared.

NEVER SEND OUT ITEMS BEFORE PAYMENTS CLEAR. I had a sell recently where the payment did not clear for 3 weeks! This was because the buyer had insufficient funds.

Feedback is your take on a transaction. How did it go? Did everything go smoothly?

I have sold stuff on eBay. When the buyer pays me, I leave feedback because they have done their part in the transaction. Also it is the buyer's responsibility to let you know of any problems before leaving negative feedback. If there weren't any problems and everything went through fine on the buyer's end, then they should leave positive feedback.

As for the payments...

Did you accept Paypal for your auctions and did the buyer pay through Paypal? If yes, then you should get an e-mail to the address you signed up with Paypal.

If you accepted a check or money order or cash...then obviously you have to wait for it in the mail.

Some sellers wait for feedback to be given to them before leaving it for the buyer. Some feel that if they receive a negative then they should be able to retaliate with the same action. Others say they don't receive it from the buyer so why should they give it?

Feedback is so important on eBay because it is your reputation.

You can leave it whenever you want to leave it and you are not required to leave it at all. Some people don't leave it at all. Feedback is a way of letting people know what your experience has been doing business with a person. Many people wait until the entire transaction has finished before leaving it-in other words, when the person has recieved the product and is satisfied with it. If you do package tracking you will know when they have recieved it.

If you go through paypal, then the money is supposed to be in your paypal account and available for use immediately. Some people have debit cards and never transfer money from there to their bank. If you withdraw money from there to put it in your bank, then it will take a few days to show up in your account. Thus far, I have never had any trouble with my money not going through. And I agree, NEVER send stuff out without getting your money first.

For sellers, when the buyer pays. Of course to be prudent, I'd make that "when the funds clear"... For buyers, the time to leave feedback is when they receive their item.

A buyer does his/her job when they pay. That's when feedback SHOULD be left. But few sellers do that, because their system is "I'll give you positive if and when you give me positive."

So if they paid, give them feedback! You can even wait till it it literally cash in your account.
