Both communities have a valid right to be there.
The history you get here in the UK is very pro-Greek. There are many tales of Turkish murders of Greeks, but dont forget the crisis was caused by a group of Greek Cypriot officers who wanted the island to be part of (then) fascist Greece. The south retains the style & name of the unified republic BUT in reality it wasn't the north that split from the rest of Cyprus, it was BOTH communities who split from the unified republic & set up their own states. Its just the south kept the old names!
In a recent referendum the Tukish north voted to unite with the south. The Greek south voted to stay seperate.

There are both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
Cyprus (Greek: Κύπρος Kýpros; Turkish: Kıbrıs), officially the Republic of Cyprus (Greek: Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία Kypriakí Dhimokratía; Turkish: Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti), is a Eurasian island nation in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea south of the Anatolian peninsula (Asia Minor) or modern-day Turkey. The third largest island in the Mediterranean, it is currently divided into four main portions: the Republic of Cyprus (the island nation-state), the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which is not recognised internationally except by Turkey, the United Nations-controlled Green Line separating the two, and two British Base Areas. The island nation Republic of Cyprus has been a member state of the European Union since 1 May 2004.

Neither. Cyprus is an independent country. The north part of the island is illegally occupied by Turkey. The citizens of Cyprus come from various ethnic backgrounds with predominant the Greek Cypriots.

Cyprus is supposed to be Greek, but there's a Turkish-occupied section. There's also a section that used to be Greek, then it was occupied by Turks, then it was taken over by the UN and now nobody lives there. Oh, well.

Greek Cypriot isn't it?. However, I think there is Turkish influence there which brings about the confusion.
