My favorite series of book s the Gregor The Overlander serise by Suzanne Collins. I love it even though there's giant rats, spiders, lizards, bats , and cockroaches that talk.

The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith set in Botswana - very sweet and funny....As a child, I used to love the Anne of Green Gables - not great to tell your male friends at high school :-D....

i like the 'rama' series by arthur c clarke,mars trilogy by kim stanley robinson. i also like books by ben bova. they have recurring characters that in a way do 'cameos'. his books would make a great tv series just in case anybody from HBO reads this answer!

if u want to read an AMAZING book read Twilight by stephanie meyer and than the sequel New Moon...i love it to deathhhh...but it might be too teenage depending on what u like to read...it has vampires
