I heard of a scam like this on the news today. I wouldn't cash it, I would say it's a scam. If you're really interested, call the number or google search it.
Update: I found an article in my local newspaper and have attached it for you.....
The scam begins when a letter is sent via the U.S. Postal Service from a foreign or unknown address, according to police. The letter usually informs the person that he or she has won a contest or sweepstakes, and instructs the recipient to cash an enclosed check for a large amount of money and send a portion of it to a specific electronic account or address. Those addresses or accounts, however, are generally unable to be tracked to someone, according to police.
Other incidents ask the person to provide an account number in which the winnings can be deposited, according to police.
Police say that none of the contests or sweepstakes are legitimate, and residents are encouraged to report these crimes.

I got a similar letter. So I called the company that was on the check, and the person on the other line spoke with an Indian accent. He said "yes" I had won the lottery. He told me to call the agent that was listed in the letter. Instead, I called the bank that the check was drawn from. Even thought the check was a "real" check, and the company was a "real" company, they did not have an account with that bank. The phone number under the company was not it's real phone number. I'll tell you as soon as I stopped the lottery emails the started coming to my mail box outside my house. So, I called the agent listed in the letter, it was odd that their business hours were from 4pm to 10pm. I called them at 5pm and left them a horrible message. I have kept the check and the letter. I look at it every day. I am wanting to come up with a way to get even with all these con artists. And when I do; I will have really won a lottery.

It's a scam. They send you the check, but it's a discount voucher for looking at some real estate they are offering for sale. Never give your personal info like bank account or social security numbers to these people.

this one is one of many types of scam, check the fine print on the papers that were in the envelope, if theres a check, with your name on it make sure that you destroy it immediately, do not cash it. chances are that it is the starting point of a very expensive loan that you just signed for , and that it would be very hard to get rid of once it goes to a reputable bank.the old maxims are still true, if the item in question is too good to be true, then it probably is. buyer beware the ulcer you save may be your own.
