Your floppy disk is probably corrupted. This happens a lot which is why it is important to make backups especially of an OS.

Also, if this is a modern laptop, you may not be able to install Windows 95 properly due to lack of drivers. Also, keep in mind if you have an original 1st version Windows 95 then it will not recognize USB ports or any peripherals that don't have drivers for it. You will also be limited to 2GB of hard drive space even if you have a higher capacity drive since it can't read more than a 2 GB partition. Also, if you have more than 512MB of RAM installed you will get memory errors at start up.

your best bet is to try to get a cd rom version of the windows 95 operating system and useit in conjunction with a 95 start up disc(you can get that from http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm)
you then need to go into setup and then bios to set your boot order to floppy first, but before you use a cd-rom version it may be worth trying the floppys again once you have changed the boot order,i say this as most laptops seem to be set to cd-rom by defualt so that is why your floppys might not be working
if the floppys still dont work,it may be another idea to try to run them using windows compatibility wizard, which you will find in programs>accesories,as windows 95 is that old it may be having problems recognizing new hardware such as intergrated pci-express graphics and the higher power processors
another problem you may encounter is drivers,as some of the newer chipsets only have drivers that go as far back as windows 98,and another major point is the lack of support from microsoft
as i said the only realistic way to load 95 is by your cd-rom ,but it will be hard to do,in my experience the older the windows the harder it is to install, although windows 95 is only around 50mb in size it is notourisly hard to install, you would be better trying a system such as windows 2000 if you dont want to use xp
if you do mangage to install 95 you will find the drivers impossible to find so you will probally have to put xp back on it
good luck
