For several reason: To keep traffic in each side. then there are two and broken line in the middle. I on your side is solid white, it means "No passing". Then there's a white line on the outside of the road. That means, you can't go outside if that line!!

The road department got a good deal on white paint since they are very concious about not wasting our taxpayers money. No just kidding. white is the most visible color for all road conditions and the longest lasting. Flourescent colors aren't very durable and will fade with sunlight.

because it stands out the most when light rays are pased throught the colour white it lets of a bright colour, black lets off a low one this results in a dark colour, depending on the pigments depends on the visability of the colour. its like glass and a mirror the bounce light off them and light goin through a cristal and transpising a rainbow effect.
