France has always had a socialist governmnent, with the major parties being left of centre. Not to be confused with communism, they are strongly supported by the Trade Unions, and particularly the transport and agricultural sectors.
Hayesfam seems to think that electing anyone who isn't a fascist or a nazi means you're communist, it's just that in Europe we've experienced both extremes, and like neither. The US only has the choice between voting for Hitler (Bush) or Mussolini(Democrats), and calls that democracy, it's not it's fascism or neo-fascism and therefore no choice. The French also elect a Prime Minister, usually from the other party to that of the President, to act as a counter-measure to extremism.

In France, there is only the LEFT! That is why they are in such deep do do. To many social services, to many immigrants, not enough common sense. Not nearly enough money! Not any more! They seem to be more communist than democratic. Although they do elect there own president.

They tend to be left wing. I have found most of France to be middle of the road except for the Paris area (central)

The cowards.
Seriously, I think the right is in charge right now, but their concept of left and right is different than in our politics.

President Jacque Chric is from the right wing Gallist party. They are fiercely nationalistic and hate interference from anybody. Bush hates him and vice versa, simply because they are so similar. Lets face it, neither of them are exactly what you would call: outward thinking!

What difference does it make? Those who are in charge there are somehow (or more then somehow) connected to NATO terror in the Balkans.
