To answer the Gold challenge:
Start with the star on the triangle and read every third letter
Then continue on at the star on the square, read every fourth letter
Then finally start at the star on the star and read every fifth letter.
(3 sides to a triangle, 4 sides to a square, 5 sides to a star)
You should get:
ARTIS/TALSOKNOWN/ASTHEBLAMANCK
BLAMANCK= MAN in BLACK
