Gone With The Wind, I love historical fiction and you can "see" the story come alive in your head....

I have many favorites, but at the top of the list is "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas.

Why? It is unflawed. The writing is brilliant, the action is constant even when the pace slows enough for the reader to catch her breath, the characters are all well-developed so that even minor characters are truly important. The best thing, however, is how many intricate details are woven into the story without ever becoming confusing or losing the reader. As a writer myself, I can't imagine keeping all of that beautiful complexity as straight as he did. Of course, there is the moral weaved throughout that blends instead of slapping you in the face. It also shows what can be accomplished when spirit, determination, and hard work are the focus instead of whining about how hard things are.

Gorgeous, incredible book. I recommend it to everyone regardless of what genre you normally read.

I guess it depends what style of book you normally like....Most recently, I read The Secret History by Donna Tart and found it to be the most engaging and enjoyable reads I've had in a long time - great characters and a narrative that really does create a page turner.

If you're looking for something light and fun then I'd recommend The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. It's being adapted for TV and is the story of Mma Ramotswe and her life in Botswana. Great fun.

Other books I've enjoyed this year have been A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian; The Food of Love; Love in the Time of Cholera...Just look on Amazon and you'll find them there. Well worth checking out.

The best book I have ever read was Wenny has wings or the ...Wenny has wings is a good book because Wenny died and her brother keeps a journal and writes to her. he tells her everything that happened each and every day. The book is sad... I suggest a box of tissues just in case.

The Jungle (1906) by Upton Sinclair.

I read this when I was in Junion High and I still pick it up at least every two years and re-read the novel.

It's very powerful. It will leave you feeling gross and uncomfortable and angry about human nature. But that's the point of the novel, to show how much injustice there is in this world, and to appreciate what you have.

Okay it's not a book but, before you say no I just want to say Phantom of The Opera. I love-love-love that movie and I -think that the Phantomof the Opera and Christine should totally marry each other. I mean don't get me wrong Roald is nice and all but, I think that the Phantom and Christine are cuter together because they have such a strong love for music and each other well, at least the phantom likes Christine more.

King Fortis the Brave. I don't know if there is any one reason, other than it was just a really good book that kept me riveted the entire time I was reading it.

Modern Military Heroes - untold stories of courage and gallantry. It's not the 'best' book I've ever read but it's truely fantastic! (it's the best book I've read THIS YEAR).

I loved the Beauty trioligy by Anne Rice. While I have too many to name any one favorite, this was a collection that I found facinating and not many people know about this part of her work so thats why I put it up.
