I have a 4 month old baby girl. She was sleepig through the night at about 1 1/2 - 2 months. Now all the sudden this past week she has been waking in the middle of the night. I have tried to give her cereal before bed. I am not sure what else to do. Family, friends, and day care are all telling me to let her cry! I don't know if I can do that! Any suggestions?

I do feed her in the middle of the night. She takes (without cereal) about 7 oz of formula. I have tried upping her formula during the day to 8oz but she won't finish the bottle. :-( It is so frustrating, being back to work and not getting great sleep.

My pediatrician has said that this will happen from time to time with growth spurts, and that it shouldn't last more than a week. Depending on what time she's waking she may be hungry. If she's slept for quite a bit before waking and won't go back to sleep you might try feeding her. Otherwise she probably just wants to play. It's hard, but for both of your benefits you should let her learn to soothe herself back to sleep.

Be sure and feed her, change her diaper, before she goes to bed (which I'm sure you do)... honestly girl... I know it sounds heart breaking.... but if she's just barely crying then you know she's alright... just leave her to be, she'll go back to sleep. That's what I did with my daughter who is now almost 3.. she has always been a good sleeper, and I think it's from when she was little. By now you should know your daughters cries. If she cries for more than 30 minutes... I would go in her room. If she starts crying hysterically then of course go get her. But if she's just barely crying... then she'll be okay and probably go right back to sleep. Just try it out a couple of times, if it's too hard for you to do or if it doesn't work then maybe it's not right for your lil one. Every baby is different. But if you can just hold out and let it work... I think it will. It will be worth it in the long run. Babies are so much smarter then what we give them credit for. When my daughter was sick, I would run into her room every time I heard her wine. She caught on to that though!! She would wake up in the middle of the night, start crying, thinking that I was gonna run in there, like I had been when she was sick. I knew she was fine though, so I waited it out a while, and guess what, she went back to sleep. Now she has started (her pacifier falls out of her mouth, onto the floor, and she can't find it) so we started getting up and getting it for her. Don't ever start the pacifier... that's one thing I will not let my next child have. Well, I hope this is helpful for you.... Good luck!!

Besides just letting her cry... no.
She might be growing and needing an extra feeding at night. you could try giving her some formula when she wakes up at night and maybe that will help her get through the night.

Baby girl is getting smart! Since you said she has already ate, she's not hungry. She has figured out that it's fun to wake up in the night and call for Momma. She wants to see you and play with you.
Next time it happens, just peek in, changer her if neccessary, DO NOT TALK TO HER, put her back down, and leave the room.

at that age its quite normal for babies to have different sleeping patterns.
yah its right to let her cry and learn herself how to go back in to sleep . coz if u will rock her, sure she will do it everytime. she will wait for your "rescue".
if it is hard for u to do it. make some time like 10 mins before u carry her. then lil by little increase the mins untill she will be used to it.
