Why would he hide it in the first place?
If he was hiding his sexuality, then for whatever reason he'd keep it that way.
If the person came out of the closet, and would FOREVER CHANGE THE NFL!
oooohhhh, wow, itd be in the news, then come sunday youd still be cheering in the stands hoping he gets that touchdown for your team.
It makes his teammates however, feel uncomfortable. When I served in the army, they became a new family to me. Band of brothers, when someone says hes gay, it didnt change the way I talked to him, but I saw how he was treated by others.

I am guessing no. In fact, it could possibly work in reverse, as the attention could warrant some rough play in a "very hetero, high testosterone" environment. But I doubt that the players would "escort" a proclaimed gay man to the endzone for fear of touching him.
