Depending on your likes there are alot of things to do in the Phoenix area. Hiking: South Mt., North Mt., Piestewa Peak. Casinos in almost every corner. Mystery Castle by South Mountain. There are several lakes and rivers if you want water sports. There are quite a few museums - Heard - AZ Science Center - Desert Bontanical Gardens - Taliesen West. You can go get into the Western flair at Rawhide or have a great steak dinner at Pinnacle Peak Patio. You can get some walking in by going to the Phoenix Zoo or doing the Scottsdale Art Walk.
There is LOTS to do in Phoenix. You can Google just about any of the above stuff for more information.
I have a question! How can you be on a "road trip" and not have a car? Just asking.

The State Fair is in town till 11/5. Then the same rides move out to Firebird Intl Raceway for Santa's Town which runs through the first week of January. There are tons of events coming up for the holidays so depends on what you are into. Check out 'about.com' and look at things to do in AZ for a full list. Lots of haunted houses and lots of family events as well. The Schnepf Farms Pumpkin & Chili Festival is on right now with the newest haunted house next door. -- You might add a comment letting people know how old you are and what sort of things you want to know about.

I've lived in and around Phoenix nearly all my life and I can't think of anything other than those already mentioned. I suppose you could try Big Surf in Tempe if you like water parks. Probably have to wait for the summer, though. There just isn't anything all that "Big" here to do like Disney Land or Sea World. In fact when I was younger my family often traveled out of state on vacation because we had already been to the Grand Canyon, Tombstone and Old Tucson more times than I can remember.

I could give you a list of all sorts of things to do around the Phoenix area!!!
1)Visit all the museums in Downtown Phoenix...mostly on Washington Ave
2)Shopping areas:Borgata-Scottsdale, Downtown Scottsdale has all sorts of neat shops on Scottsdale Road. Arizona Mills Mall-Tempe off 10 freeway @ Baseline, Fiesta Mall-(Mesa) off the Superstition Freeway @ Alma School Road, North Phoenix-Metro Center Mall.
3)North Phoenix-Botanical Gardens and the Zoo
4)Phoenix-Go Hiking up Camelback Mountain
5)Go up to Rustlers Rooste Restaurant for dinner...restaurant is at the South Mountain Pointe Resort off the 10 freeway @Baseline. When you go in the Front door-there is a bull or cow in the pen. Inside there is a slide that you go down into the dining room. That was my favorite thing to do when I would visit my sister out there. Ask for a window seat so you can look out over the city and valley below.
6)Drive up to Apache Junction where you can visit several lakes and enjoy the scenery.
7)1 hour north of Phoenxi is Prescott where you can walk through town and walk through the museums up in that area.
8) Walk around ASU at night, especially during the summer when its warm outside.
9)Go down to Mill Ave and walk through that area..have a bite to eat!!!
There is so much to do in Phoenix, but I would do all this first.

i've been in phoenix for 2 weeks now, on a road trip, and i can tell you this is one of the most boring metro areas i've ever been. maybe it's because i don't have a car and phoenix is very spread out, but everyone here tells me there's no culture. the closest thing to any culture i've found here in 2 weeks is mill ave. in tempe, which is about 10 miles from phoenix. it's a college town, so mill is like 80% drunk college students on the weekends, bar hopping and people watching there. if you can tolerate a bunch of drunk frat boys all night, check out mill ave. you will need a car to get there from any other part of phoenix.

depends on your age? Over 21 there are some awesome clubs in old Scottsdale, at the metro mall there is gameworks, and if you like outdoorsy stuff the Verde river is absolutely amazing
Hope this helps
