"Brown of Harvard" is the title of three silent films from 1911, 1918 and 1926. John Wayne made his screen debut in the third "Brown of Harvard" film as a "Yale Football Player".

"The Big Trail" was his first starring role as John Wayne, but he appeared in "Maker of Men", filmed 1930 released 1931 beforehand in which he was billed under his own name Marion Morrison. His middle name was Robert but was changed by his parents to Mitchell when his younger brother was born and his parents wanted to call the newborn Robert.
