i think that 'burning daylight' mean wasting your days away, like say sleeping in really late. and it wont keep you warm means that you wont be happy if you miss everything all of the time

Being active keeps your warm, so if you're not active you're burning daylight (meaning wasting time) and it won't keep your warm because you're not active!

Practically speaking...

If you waist your time during the day by not working, you won't have the money to buy fuel to warm you in the evenings.

or

Mentally speaking..

If you don't use your time and mind wisely at the end you will have accomplished nothing.
