It means that you just have to do whatever it takes to get the job done. If one method doesn't work, try something else until you accomplish your task.

i think that this means that there are more than one way to do things, and i have heard it used for that. but literally, theres more than one way to skin a cat for example, you could use different tools, or start in different places. the thought of this makes me cringe.
