Okay so tonight is Homecoming at my boyfriend's school. He already went to mine, and last night we went to a fancy dinner party. I didn't dance once. I HATE dancing. Don't even try to counsel me on it, its' probably psychological but there are VERY VERY few things that make me more uncomfortable then getting out on the dance floor.
Now, I've considered things that might help me relax. I can say that alcohol might help, not that I'd get drunk or anything but it takes the edge off. I mean, my parents let me drink under their supervision and all. But I really shouldn't do that because they're actually going to be on the lookout for anyone who had alcohol tonight. Is there anything else I can do?? I have this homeopathic medicine called Rescue Remedy, one drop immediately calms me down, but that's more for well, an emergency. If I'm seriously panicked. Dancing doesn't make me panicked, just uncomfortable. Does anyone have any ideas?

I also promised him I would dance. Because it means a lot to him, he gets frustrated when I don't like he thinks he's not good enough or something...

I also probably should have added, I have a serious anxiety disorder. Though it usually hits when I'm alone. But it can be triggered in crowds or uncomfortable situations. So, thanks for the suggestion, Gemini.

How about taking kava? It's a natural herbal drink that relaxes muscles, calms nerves and creates a general feeling of well-being, induces a feeling of relaxation. I dont think there's a need for alcohol if you can have kava. Just take low doses at first. Most of all, do not take kava if you plan to have alcohol, sedatives or tranquilizers - not a good combo.

Other than that, just try to relax. I have social anxiety disorder, meaning I always get nervous about social situations, including dancing. I always try harder when prepping for dances, dates, etc. I just try to picture myself having fun an hour before leaving. I mentally envision what I'm doing and that I'm having fun doing it. So in your case, at night, picture yourself dancing comfortably. I'm sure you'll be fine. And if you really dont want to dance, just say so.

Is it absolutely necessary to dance? I mean I know it is a dance but it could also be fun just hangin out and talking with your bf and other friends. Maybe you can just sit in the chair and bob your head or wiggle your feet. Do you like to slow dance or does that make you uncomfortable too? I wish I had some good advice for you because it sounds like you would have more fun if you were able to dance a lil bit. hmmm maybe if you all just did a big group dance with all your friends so maybe you wouldnt feel like anyone was just watching you.

its very unlikely that anyone will notice your dancing - unless you are either Patrick Swayze or Mr Bean!!!! If you are between these two extremes, no-one will notice. Just remember that lots of other guys will be in the same boat. Relax and enjoy the time spent with your girlfriend. :)
