It's probably a habit that she has had since she was small. It's a nervous habit that many people who have don't even realize they are doing until their fingernail beds become tender and bleed. If she goes to the drugstore she can ask her pharmacist for this stuff called "Stop Chew" (or of a similar name.) You apply it to your finger nails exactly like nail polish. When you go to bite or chew your nails it tastes absolutely horrible. Almost to the point you want to vomit. It is meant as a deterrent to stop nail biting.

I usually forget to bite my nails when I'm a little busy. But after things get out of hand I start to bite my nails without realizing it. The key for me is it stay in a comfort zone.

I think the habit can be broken with applied self control and determination. But like anything, sometimes it's just hard to do.

She needs a polish for bitten nails, not nail growth. Bitten nail polish is bitter and taste so very bad. If she puts it on every day she will notice when she bite them and eventually quit.

the bitter tasting nail polish doesn't work...one bite and the taste is gone so you need something that will stick around for longer. Tabasco works but be careful not to touch you eyes
