Hi,

I've been sleep for ages in a room which completely dark, in which I could sleep 10-12 hours everyday. Recently I changed apartment and now since my curtain doesn't block the light completely, I cannot sleep after a specific time in the day (~10:00).

Now I am interested in the healthy aspect of what type and length of sleep is better for my body.

And the question is should I fix my curtain so that it blocks the light completlely or not?

The average person should get 8 hrs of sleep a night..thats healthy. Sleeping 10 to 12 hrs a day surely cannot be that healthy for your body. If I were you I would talk to a doctor about why you need so much sleep.

O-o-h, I so love to sleep, too. I think I'm developing an "unnatural" relationship with my bed. lol
Ok, joking aside: Install black-out curtains or roll-down--you can keep your pretty ones that way. Try Home Depot or the like--they aren't too expensive
You didn't say how old you were or what shape your in, ie, why you sleep 10-12 hours a day (see below for my excuses :)
Make sure your getting quality sleep that is uninterrupted by sounds, light, snoring, apnea, etc. And you should have dreams.
And the usual advise for a good night's sleep: Watch times & amts of caffiene intake, don't exercise or argue imediately before bed time, watch the sugar/alcohol loaading before bed--will cause a 3 in the morning wakefulness prob, Check your bodiy for pain or anticipated pain & take an OTC pain reliever--aspirin, tylonol, etc.--Do get exercise during the day if you are able.
Hope this helps & e-mail me if you want to talk.

it is light and darkness that creates the hormones that make us sleep when we should. I believe that complete darkness is the only way to sleep. You need about 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Set an alarm for 9 hours so you wan't get too much sleep which could make you lethargic.

There are 2 sides to every coin. On one hand they say you don't sleep as well with light because it's less likely you will get the deep REM sleep. On the other hand, light is the natural cure to helping us wake up. So if you look at it that way I wouldn't want to sleep with light but I wouldn't want to block it completely because it does help us to wake up.
