He spent too much money, like 14 million dollars on a huge house in Fremont, California. And he had way too many people in his entourage, that were all on the payroll !!!!

A classic case of how too much excess and too little discipline can ruin you.

He employed too many people. He had a lot of friends in his employment whether they were dancers or just in his entourage. They would do the simplest job but he had a good heart to try and help them out. He did have a lavish home but that did not send him directly into going broke b/c he has a lot of money coming in. Some bad investments and his last album with Death Row people did not buy as much b/c it was a different Hammer to them. Main thing was too too many people looking for hand out and he paid them and when the money were gone so were they.

He made some really bad investments.
He bought a huge house- Up in the Oakland Hills. I actually don't think that house is there anymore.
Kept backing groups/ singers that really weren't talented- Ya'll remember that madness he produced with Deon Sanders. What was he thinking?
Too many backup dancers- An army of dancers? I think he should have left it at 6 at the most

I can't remember the exact amount he was in debt for but I do know he had to sell his house and the majority of his "friends" stopped hanging around him. However the brother is trying to make a come back. I saw a video the other day on one of the public stations here in the Bay Area and he was dancing around with another large group of dancers.

Hammer was one of the first to include a full entourage that toured with him. He inlcuded all of his close friends to put on spectacular shows. Hammer could not say no to his people and in time spent too much money not only on himself but on his amazing payroll...
