There is a very old black and white film called the Carnival of Souls. If you have Film 4 in the UK, I think it is on over the next few weeks... Very creepy... Check out more info on IMDB.

Otherwise, the original Wicker Man or the US version of The Grudge. Just don't go and see the sequel, Grudge 2, it is dreadful.

I would say the scariest movies are movies that leave you traumatized not scared of "monsters" but actual people and their acts like the last house on the left is gruesome, The texas Chainsaw Family and The house of a thousand corpses oh and the hills have eyes i can't believe people can be like that

Psycho (1960) and the Exorcist (1973) are classics. I hate it when people say something like "Saw" or "The Grudge" is the scariest (of all time) just b/c it is the latest scary movie they have seen. They obviously have not seen the good ones. But if you are looking for a good Halloween movie, go rent one of those! I promise you will not be disappointed!

Back in my Youth, I couldn't get enough of horror films, I loved them, watched every single one be it at the flicks or on video until I watched The Fly II it was gut-wrenching, made me feel sick and ill afterwards, afraid to say that I had nightmares about it. Put me off horror films for eons. It was horrific, really horrific, I can watch Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Friday 13th and Hostel without batting an eyelid, but I've swore blind I'd never watch The Fly II again as long as I live!

Gotta go with "Stephen King's IT." That clown is something else. Youtube it, it has all of the scariest parts condensed into one video, the other parts are kinda cheesy.
