Pray for them and ask Christ to give them strength to turn away from their addictions and vices. Many of the homeless, addicted ppl you see on the streets got there by choice. a lot of them seem not even to want help, except to get money to buy more and more drugs and live according to their own desires. They don't want to work, or live a clean, decent, law abiding, God fearing life. Not all of them of course.
Sometimes talking to such ppl or offering them help seems futile, unless u r a mulit billionaire just prepared to hand them material their needs for the rest of their lives. But this is no real solution. they need God's help, all of us do. By giving them food when they need it, love, patience and teaching them from the bible, we can help them to help themselves and become stronger , so that they can finally break free of the chains of poverty, illlness and addiction that bind them! With God, everything is possible!

Get in involved in your community. You can only help one person at time. Each person has a different story and has different needs. To everyone out there - Please stop judging the homeless, the addicts, and especially the mentally ill. You have no clue how and why their lives are that way. Instead, have compassion and help them out when you can. If you choose not to help, then keep your negative judgemenal thoughts to your self.
If you really want to help, contact your city council...they have tons of opportunities to contribute to your community. Now if you are extremely passionate about helping...then become a Social Worker!!!

My husband and I are active parts in a local organization called P.A.D.S. (public action to dispense shelter). I am sure you have similar organizations in your area. Get involved, get your friends, neighbors, and places of worship involved.
It is not enough to just provide shelter, food and encouragement. Help find training for these people and help them get onto their own feet. Most do not really want charity as a lot of people seem to think.
Keep up the good thoughts and work. Thanks!
