ok seriously now (though smashing will definitely cause quality loss), here's some tips. If you get sweaty hands when you play, then wipe the neck and fretboard down when you're done playing. You could probably get something like Dunlop 65 as an all-purpose guitar cleaner. I know alot of guys use Formby's Lemon oil for rosewood fretboards.

As long as you don't abuse them, electric guitars are pretty hard to mess up. I've got a 1985 Fender Stratocaster that plays like a dream even though on close inspection it looks shabby. One of the most important "quality" issues to me is a good fit and finish. A good setup (action and intonation) will improve the playability of your guitar by leaps and bounds.

change strings frequently. make sure everything stays snug. keep it polished and last but not least, play it often. even if you pick it up once a day and strum it a few times.

put it up and polish or wax it what ever you do to an electric guitar.

Take care of them better than slash in the gnr videos.don't wash it with water.Especially don't play it in the water while plugged in.
