The history of type? I'd say the printing press (Guttenberg bible) as it made books widely available to the regular person. Before the printing press only the upper crust of society (the religious class) had access to books.

The most important aspect of movable type is that books could be published rather rapidly, and that figured very important in the Reformation era. Religious leaders like Martin Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin (and all the rest) could have their tracts and books printed and bound quickly and bring about probably the most important aspect of modern history.

It used to take some time to set a book, however, with computers a 400 page text book can be typeset within a few minutes with machines that have speeds you can't imagine.

The problem with that is that any idiot who wants to write a book now, can, and thus our library shelves are plagued with books that have a life of 30 days and then hit the garage sales.

A little of all of them but I'd say the Romans because they were much more civilized and they had the concept of roads and aqueducts down pat long before they were put to regular use.

Heck, even modern govts. such as our own have used some of their ideals as the basis for a governmental system.

well, the Greeks provided so much influence for the Romans. Egypt and the Etruscans also influenced the Romans. so, without all of Rome's influences, they would not have been what they were. My point: the Romans influenced history when they were rediscovered in the Renaissance. They influenced art, architecture, and more. however, the Romans could not have done this on their own-- without their influences.

all of these peoples were great, but they got their influences from elsewhere and would not have been what they were without them.
