The people in the current job market had nothing or little to do with the transgressions of the past; yet they are made to pay by not having a level playing field...

yes; look at south africa; so many businesses are falling apart; the economy is suffering and. Government institutions are starting to re-hire white employees on contract basis; because jobs were given to people who were not qualified for the positions. How much sense does that make? Best person for the job should always be applied.

You got to understand That Affirmative action is really a band-aid. To try to even the playing field. Lokk at this for a minute: You have 5 jobs and you have 10 people vying for those jobs. All can do the job but some are more educated. 8 are white 2 are other. The owner of the corporation is white. Who do you think is gonna get those 5 jobs. Affirmative action is not Ideal but is all we got for now.

NO!!!!! LETS BE HONEST. White business owners are not willing to risk business by hiring blacks just because they are qualified for the job..... Most white people prefer to buy from other whites. I am a business owner and I can tell you that on a whole My white Agents make more money for me then my Black ones and they all work diligently and with quality. There is this BIG BEAST in our nation that says white is right and black not honest, NOT EVERYONE BUT IT IS LARGE ENOUGH TO NOTICE. Affirmative action is a feeble attempt to FINALLY Level the playing field and we still have a long way to go.....LOOK at the statistics.

You cry black people are lazy but would not hire them even with a sign outside saying HIREING in big bold letters. Our tv is not riddled with showings possitive black men who are taking care of family and being responcible but let him have a gun in his hand and he will be on the news front and Center. Something is wrong in this nation when it is easier for a black man to be a drug dealer then to get a descent job to feed his family. Why does a drug dealer get a tougher sentence then the Eron corporate thieves who stoll all that money? Why do you think if a person is white they are more honest then a black person?

Fact: more Africans Americans who have a college degree are working outside of their field of study.... Why? Because after they have reached their "affirmative action quota" they don't hire any more even if the person is educated in that field and qualified.

Fact: A girl with a ethnic name is ten times more unlikely to get called for an interview and she can have fantastic qualifications then a girl named Melissa who is black

Fact: white men and woman are paid more for the same position than a black person or a Mexican for the same job.

Fact: The average middle class Black family have to have at least 3 1/2 jobs to survey and the middle class white family has 2 jobs and go on vacation twice a year.

Fact: when company lay-off happen BLACKS are the first on the chopping block..... proof: we have higher interest rates on our loans even with the same credit score or a white person reason look above.

Fact: even accent speaking immigrants from other nations come and feel they have a better shot in this nation than black Americans born and raised in the US.

Based on what I just said here is a splendid idea, stop crying about affirmative action and start crying to make things fare and balanced for all people regardless of race or creed. Raise a stink that we all should get paid the same rate in the same specific job whether the person is white, black, orange or yellow and lets see how fast they get rid of affirmative action.

When this nation is ready to move past the color of a persons skin and see the content of peoples character we will be ready for even greater change and no longer need AA.
Lets get real and KILL the BEAST in this nation. A Nation Divided Against Itself Can Not Stand.

Yes, in some ways.

But I think the idea is to kind of give people a "boost" until society catches up.

Think of two people sitting down to take a test:
1: Born to a married white couple. Mom stayed home 1st five years of his life, doting on him with attention, Baby Einstein tapes, Barney videos, taking him for playdates, etc. Money never a concern. Nutritious, healthy food and plenty of sleep every day. Sports. Vacations. Summer camp. Takes an expensive, 3-week test prep course. Has a private tutor. Now he sits down, takes the test, and gets a 90%.

2. Girl born to a single, African-American mom who works 3 jobs. Grows up looking after herself and 2 younger siblings while mom is at work. Doesn't have time to play sports, no money for vacations, eats cheap food. Spends her summers working at Hot Dog on a Stick. Buys a test prep book, studies by herself in the school library. Sits down, takes the test, gets an 87%.

Who has a better grade? Who has the most determination to succeed in life? Who "wants" success more? Whose family would benefit more by having a family member go to Harvard Med? Who is more likely to understand his/her patients? Who is more likely to offer a new voice? WHO IS SMARTER? The answers are not all the same.

affirmative action would not have been needed had people known how to act in the first place. In fact if there was no affirmative action it would mostly go right back to where things were back before affirmative action started

As a woman of colour, I don't believe in AA. You should only get the job if you are the best person for it. Period. If the employer is racist, then my God will deal with that little matter and find me a far superior job than that one. Amen.
