Go outside and look around under your eaves and around the windows, you could have a bee hive up there. Also check around the foundation of the house there are bees that hive in the ground also. Good luck.

Found out bees were getting in through holes in the attic. They had chewed through the ceiling and were inside my bedroom. After the exterminator got the queen, and the rest of the hive, I had to air out the house for a day or two to clear the fumes. He pointed out tiny cracks in the eaves and I even saw some going underneath shingles, I suppose they had chewed through to the attic that way. The exterminator then put metal mesh over the ventilation holes under the eaves, they had metal screens, but the bees were small enough to fit through the holes.

They may be coming in from your heating/air vents. Check outside to see if there is a nest anywhere around where the vents are on the outside of the house. Don't try to treat the nest yourself. Whether they are bees, or hornets, or wasps, they can all get really angry when their home is disturbed. Call an exterminator. Also - I read that these types of flying insects give off a scent (pherome?) when in danger, to others in their colony, sort of a distress call, so, be really careful about killing them yourself.
