There are many ways, so here are just a few:
1) Advertise, advertise, advertise!
Spread the word! That's probably the best way to create traffic. Banner ads work well, as long as you get permission from the site you want to post them on. Word of mouth works too!
2) Meta tags!
Learn how to put in meta tags in your website. These tags provide keywords that link to your site. For example, if someone searches for "cars" and one of your meta tags is "cars", than your site will show up!
3) Get listed!
Apply to be listed on Google or Yahoo!. These are the most commonly-used search engines.
There are many more things you could do to help popularize your site, but the above three are some of the more commonly used.

This is what I do. I get about 1000-2000 hits per month. Join Forums on the net, for Video games and make a sig that has ur site name on it and post a lot. And people will click it.

If you are on any message boards or forums, put the link to your website in your signature.
Or put the link in your email.
Or here on yahoo! answers.
There is also a way that you can put it on Google and other search engines. If you go to your web host, there should be an explanation on how to do it.
