Being an old fogie, I'm always at a loss as to what to get my nine-year-old, tomboy granddaughter. For her birthday, I purchased a neat video recorder. What's hip for the young people or what is really a must have?

a fox racing jersey, very cute and still "boyish"
i-pod is a good gift (depending on $$ wanting to spend)
you can never go wrong with a gift certificate or a home made IOU for a shopping trip with you so you can pick something out together and then you can spend some time together too.

depending on ur price range....

ipods are great but more for an older crowd 100$

if she's a tomboy she may enjoy video games. new consoles: around 300$ new games: 50$ (i would refrain from this because she will probably grow out of her tomboy phase)
you could also go for the cheaper portable consoles

*****Tamagotchi 15$ - i had one when i was around her age and i loved it. its a digital pet.*****

and of course you could always get her a new bike or scooter.

and i am sorry to say this. . . but unless she has shown a reason to like the video recorder, she probably wont like it. and there is a large chance she might break it.

Even though she's young, I am sure she would love an ipod. The new 5th generation ipods play music, movies, tv shows, and music videos. It would be something she could use for awhile.

Also, if she is into video games, I think she would like a sony PSP (or playstation portable) that allows you to play video games, movies, music...it does everything! It's really popular with the kids as well.

Why not try a nice book, one of the Wizard of Oz books for example. For extra points, maybe you can schedule some time to read it with her
