I treat the staff the same way, I treat the people who do that job with respect, as I have done it before. Once I even went to lunch with two co-workers, and we were practally ignored by the waitress, and 3 men at the next table were "lorded over". was she thinking we would tip less? I tip 15-20% for good service and nothing for bad.

I find places treat me worse when I have my son with me. Most think because he's a little boy that he'll cause trouble. In truth, he's a wonderful little boy that doesn't really cause much trouble. Also, if we go out as a mom's group, wow do some people get rude because of the kids. It's so not fair!

You know it is the exact opposite for me. When my boyfriend and I go out we seem to get the worst service and we are really nice and tip more than the expected usually especially when service is exceptional which never seems to happen anymore. But I would assume a lot of people don't care to serve children. You don't get appreciation from them, they tend to be messy and a lot more work, so people tend to say who cares I am not going to get tipped well by them so I am not going to give my best service. As for your female friends I don't think I have ever encountered that problem either, although the reason could be you are all females, just take advantage of that fact. Although most of the time if you have a male server they tend to flirt to get the better tip.

I read all the other answers so far. Most are correct the average server looks at a woman and children as a pain in the butt. THey will run the server to death, kids make a mess, mothers don't compensate for the trouble and the mess so the tip will be less.
As for groups of women a female server is intimidated and somtimes the group of women treat the server as if they are beneath them as in financially. When this happens the server begins to treat the table the way they themselves have been treated. I myself have been a server for 17 years and I try to treat everyone the same. i have a child and when he was small I got treated that way unless I was at my place of work. It stinks but thats the way it works and until you've worked to serve its hard to understand.

Frankly though a good server doesn't immediatly take this attitude but by an large it is about tips. Women with kids are more demanding and the check will be lower. Women in groups are usually talking, take their time to order, and tie up the table longer. Women often want seperate checks even if they all had the same thing. Its all about time versus tip ratio. Its a fact that generally men tip better.

I haven't noticed any difference at all. Do you treat the staff the same way in both circumstances? I always find that being pleasant and smiling, but not taking up extra time by too much chatting, results in outstanding service from men or women.

I don't know why that would be. I waitress part-time and I don't treat any of my tables differently based on sex. Even if my customers are rude I still give them good service.
I'll probably get a lot of crap for saying this, but a lot of waitresses are very young girls, and a lot of young girls are threatned by women. Don't take it personally, they just lack confidence.

I agree that it is all in your head with the guy thing. Kids, however, can result in a poor quality of service I have noticed. If you go to a wait staff person that is childless your children's "cute" behaviors could get on their nerves. If your kids aren't sitting and being quiet it could disturb the people around you or the wait staff and make it so that you get an "attitude" from the waitperson.

You have to speak up and don't let anyone run over you. Yea, when a woman is alone, a saleman will try to take of advantage of her. But, be firm and let him know what you want and not what he want to give you.
