that is the theory. but the tricky part is when will you ovulate to know when your egg is available for fertilization. one more information nugget is that sperm can live for up to 3 days around your cervix.

Sort of, and yes. The theory goes, you release one egg a month, and there's a period of only a couple of days when that egg is available for fertilization. In practise, you can release an egg anytime. I had a friend get pregnant having unprotected sex during her period; she just happened to release another egg at that time. Also, sperm is able to live inside a woman's body for several days, so that increases your likelihood of pregnancy.

You can determine the days you ovulate, with tracking your temperature or fancy kits they sell to couples trying to conceive. However, this is not a very good method of birth control. It has a very high failure rate when compared with using the pill or condoms.

cycles run on about 28 days this start when your period starts, if you count about 14 days into the cycle, the days surrounding it are your most fertile

you can get pregnant ANYTIME... however, the time where you are leaast likely to get pregnant (works for hardcore Catholics) is the first week after the woman's menstral period.

Safety first... use contraception.
