What did the Greatest American Hero have to do in order to make himself fly in his supersuit? And for bonus, how did he figure it out?

He flew badly. He couldn't really control it. I believe a liitle boy told him he could fly. The kid said for him to run and jump and he did but like I said, couldn't control it.

The suit the aliens left gave him the powers and the instructions, but he lost the instruction book, so he had to use what knowledge he had from Superman to try and learn to fly and to use the other powers.

He had a super-suit that was given to him by aliens. He had to use trial and error to figure out how to get it to work, because he lost the instruction manual.

He was granted powers by the ghost of a Vietnam buddy of his he left to die. His buddy came back in a UFO and gave him his suit. Only by being a geek could he fly.
