I am 4 months pregnant, and was prescribed a medication for a bactrial infection by a midwife that works in my OBGYN's office. My doctor was backed up and I was in a hurry, so I saw the midwife, who prescribed this medicine, but when I got it, I read that it said not to take while breastfeeding, or prenant. It says not to take at all during the first three months and only with caution during the last six months. I was wondering if anyone has ever been prescribed a medication by their OBGYN while pregnant that says not to take it, and did it cause any problems with your pregnancy? Thanks!!

Yes I have totally been suscribed a medication with that on it and it was prescribed by a OBGYN and he said as long as he or someone that knows what they are doing prescribes it to you then it wont harm the fetus. They are strictly not aloud to give meds out that will harm a fetus and if they happen to they will be in prison for life and I dont think they want that to happen so you will be okay honey.

There are medications that Dr's prescribe for sleeping. They do carry some risk but the Dr will always take care of the mother first. If the benefits outweigh the potential risks, they will give the mother the medicine. Not sleeping is unhealthy too. I have taken Tylenol Pm before. It is perfectly safe to take occasionally. (it is only Tylenol and Benadryl..both are safe to take while pregnant) You say that you wouldn't take anything no matter how much trouble you have, but you say that bc I am assuming you have had no real trouble sleeping or been in a lot of pain while pregnant. I agree with you that no one should take anything that isn't necessary but try not sleeping for 3 days straight and then say you wouldn't. Or break your leg in a car accident while you are pregnant. There are safe medications to take while pregnant if taken correctly and only when truly needed.

This hasn't happened to me, but I suggest you call the doctor and ask to speak personally with the doctor TODAY. Ask the doctor there is something safer you can take to treat the bacterial infection, since you are 4 mos pregnant. If not, ask what the risks to the fetus are of taking the medication. You might also ask, what the risks are of not treating the infection.
According to my pregnancy book, vaginal bacterial infections pose a significant threat to the unborn baby, so you MUST get this treated, but perhaps there is something safer he can prescribe? Don't be afraid to call the doctor's office and be assertive, since this is a very important concern you raise!
Good luck!

Sometimes such medications will be prescribed during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweight the risk to the fetus. It may be more dangerous for you to leave a bacterial infection untreated during pregnancy than it is for you to take said medication. Do more research or get a second opinion if you don't feel comfortable.

I would talk to my doctor immediately. 1. Bacterial Infections during pregnancy are damaging for you and the baby. It can cause hearing and eye sight loss not to mention other complications. 2. I took medications that said the exact same thing or not to be taken during pregnancy unless absolutely needed and I miscarried at 8 weeks. The best thing to do is talk to your dr asap.

YOU WILL FIND THAT A LOT OF MEDICATION SAY DON'T TAKE WHILE PREGNANT OR NURSING UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO BY A PHYSICIAN. NOW IF YOU ARE REALLY CONCERNED BY THIS THEN HOPEFULLY YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN IT YET AND YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO CONSULT WITH YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR BUT IF YOU HAVE THEN YOU SHOULD DISCONTINUE IT UNTIL YOU TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR.

You could also talk to your pharmacist. Sometimes meds are given even while you are pregnant if the benefits outweigh the risks.

don't take them.
the MD and the pharmacy screwed up.
unless you had to have only that one and they explained clearly the e risk to the fetus.. its malpractice. both places and all three!
call the state file complaints
and go to a new MD. and new pharmacy

If you couldn't have gotten back to the doctor, you should have checked with your pharmacist.
