Because Communism only works if all the people are willing to work for each other and give to each other selflessly. Unfortunately, that is just not human nature. Humans will fall victim to selfishness if given the opportunity. Especially, those who become the leaders under communism. They quickly see how much they can obtain by being on top and the power corrupts them. That's when opression begins.

There has never been true communism except in small cults within a country. There is a ruling class and they are the also the rich. So the true communism experiment has never been able to be played out. I think there is to much greed in the world to allow this to happen. Everyone is equal is just a dream. Even in a free country such as the U.S. under a capitalistic economy everyone is not legal.

Both pure Capitalism and pure Communism need absolute power from a father figure or decider to survive which would keep us from being a democracy. But we can have a country with capitalistic ideas and social programs. A strong middle class is essential to a democracy's survival.

The one answer that I didn't see anywhere, and to me it's the crux of the entire matter. It's the lack of individuals taking personal responsibility for their state in life. Blaming another entity for your state in life does nothing to better your condition. But taking personal responsibility and positive action does.

Human nature. People are motivated by money and its acquisition. Without that motivation society stagnates the more ambitious can't get rich but they can get politically powerful, so they just amass power and power corrupts.

The concept may "sound" good, but won't work in the real world. Human Nature just won't let it. Too many scumbags, to many lazy bums willing to live off of other peoples labour.

The fact that it takes a brutal totalitarian dictatorship to keep the people in line once they figure out that it's just a scam perpetrated by a group of gangsters whose sole purpose is to rule over them by force.
Makes it kinda hard to sustain indefinitely, no?
