I want to become a police officer. I heard that I would have to actually get hired by a police department first. Can someone please explain the process/schooling to me? I really don't even know where to start. Thanks

first of all to even get qualified to get signed up for the academy you will need to get sponsored by someone that thinks you would be a good law abiding officer . Then you go threw a 6 month academy and then you tag along with a prexisting officer for about another 6 months before you get your own unit ( car).

Call the Police Department in the City where you live and ask them the procedure for becoming a police officer. The procedure is different in each state. You have to go the Police Academy for training.

I had a couple of brothers that both tried to get jobs as police officers(in FL) without going to the police academy first. No one would hire them because they felt that if they were really serious about it they'd have gone to the academy first. so the answer is that you should pay to go to the police academy first and try to get a job after that. Just make sure that theres plenty of available jobs in the area that you live in so your chances will be good of getting one. Good luck.

i think you have to apply and get accepted to the police acadamy.
