In the past no, but now since 1999, yes they are required by federal law to have catalitic converters, the same as gasoline engines. I'm a diesel mechanic in a fleet service for 16 years.

You don't rev. That is wasted fuel not taking you nowhere. No additional horsepower. which makes it different than gasoline engines. The torque or pulling power is greater in a diesel over any gasoline engine. Trains use diesel and they can pull up to 200 railway cars. The CC or anything fitted to the engine after the exhaust does not matter. Maybe a little quieter and that is it.(as the CC is just like a muffler "without it being the muffler".

I called the Ford dealer in my hometown,,,he said if the vehicle comes from the factory with it,,,it must always be one on there. He also said if the comes from the factory without it,,you do not need it. He said his theory is that some diesels have it and some without to test the systems to see if its actually a help or a hinderence. Well anyway,,,thats what I got when I called just now to ask that question. Hope it helps ya!

It depends on what year and make of the diesel. I had an 02 Ford with manual transmission and it had a cat on it. So yes diesels can have cats.

no diesel would ruin it immediately.

diesel is too crude Tobe cleaned by a converter for gas
and the saving grace is it falls to the ground not rises to ozone.
and now you can do conversions to diesel vehicles or the used oil.
use used vegetable oil to run them.!
