Cautions are mainly for debris or wrecks. However, the caution can also come out when a driver has a harmless spin or is limping along the a portion of the track due to a flat or other issues. Rain or other weather can bring out a caution as well as we saw during the rain shorten Michigan race back in June. The length of the caution period depends on the reason for the caution and if there is much clean-up needed before they go back to green.

cautions r caused by debris or crashes, then the yellow flag comes out and everyone follows the pace car around the track for about 2 or 3 laps until the crew can get the track cleaned

a caution comes out when there is a crash or debris found on the track. and when a caution is out, the cars follow behind the pace car at a slow speed to give the crew time to clean up the mess and all those who need to get to pit road can do it during this time.
