How does one determine if they have.....?

Bipolar or if they have Borderline personality disorder. Is it possible to have both?

borderline is more severe cause it has similarities with schizophrenics..
when you are borderline, you either hate or love people around you..you dont have stable relationships..while in bipolar you only have shiftings in moods but in theformer, you have unstable moods, relationships.. you also want attention

Bipolar disorder is an Axis I diagnosis, while BPD is an Axis II disorder, and Axis I and II disorders may coexist. Manic depression is primarily considered to be neurologically based, while BPD is a personality disorder, most often caused by early childhood emotional trauma, abuse or neglect.

You go see a professional and tell your symptoms to them and they will tell you what the problem is.
The two are often misdiagnosed at first so getting a good doctor is important.
For a long time BPD was hard to diagnose but with better understanding of it now there are better treatments available.
Here are some symptoms of BPD:
a shaky sense of identity
sudden outbursts oversensitivity to real or imagined rejection
brief, turbulent love affairs
frequent period of intense depression
eating disorders,drug abuse, and other self destructive tendency's
an irrational fear of abandonment and an inability to be alone.
Its possible to have both but I bet that its one or the other.

Yes it is possible to have both. I am classified as Manic depression/Anxiety disorder. I thought for awhile that I was bi polar but the doctor's drew to the conclusion that it was all in my head. I have figured out on my own that basically I am just a very emotional and aggressive person. And I didnt have to put millions of medication in my system to figure it out! Good luck to you. :)
