Many people use PVC pipe. You can buy it at any hardware. Most people use approximately one inch diameter pipe. You can saw it into the lengths you want and use plastic elbows to connect it into a base, usually square of rectangular. Then you can use epoxy to glue the live rock onto this platform. Some people even drill holes in the live rock and secure it with plastic cables (which algae and coralline eventually grow over and hide). This technique can allow you to make some really cool caves and overhangs! Plus, it keeps "dead spots" from forming in the sand under the rock.

You will need to purchase base rock and then put your live rock on top. Also keep in mind that if you mix up your live and base they will grow. at the same time as i began holding salt water there replaced into no such element as stay rock or stay sand. We did no longer have the alternative so truly it isn't certainly worth the money. stay sand replaced into packaged to promote to those who do not have any patience and prefer it now no longer later. It does help cycle faster as does the rock notwithstanding it doesn't MATURE a tank both way. you're lacking the finished element of stay sand. it is basically already rotted in the bag with the bacteria. including it promises the ammonia with no longer something else necessary. stay rock shouldn't in any respect be used to cycle a tank. If human beings in difficulty-free words knew what grows and what's in stay rock they couldn't in any respect try this. also maximum stay rock is already cured so there is no die off except the cycle itself in the starter tank. I not in any respect advise using it to cycle. As for including sand you ought to not in any respect have more advantageous than 2" of sand to start with. Having extra can create gas wallet in the tank. not in any respect an outstanding idea right here. A salt tank is not in any respect waiting to flow in a weeks time no count number what you do to it. it is the project with new salt water aquarists. patience is the perfect device you may have and each and every week isn't cutting it right here no count number what. Sorry. i have were given 15 further years on your 15 years of reef holding. Been there carried out that. tried each and every thing with diverse tanks. to somewhat answer your question: stay sand is definitely worth it in case you want to attempt a short decrease and function the more advantageous money to achieve this. in my opinion i imagine it is a waste of money. no more advantageous than 2" throughout the bottom no extra. upload at the same time as necessary. definite stay rock and conventional sand or dolomite are advantageous mutually.

I have two PVC "bleachers" in my tank that I use to raise my live rock. Then in front of the bleachers I have the rock on the sand to hide the PVC. This has worked very well for me and the fish seem to like the large caves that this makes.
